Carol Egan is a New York City-based designer whose line of minimal and sculptural furnishings have received international recognition and acclaim. By harnessing both state-of-the-art technology, such as 3D modeling, and traditional craftwork fabrication finished by hand using the lost wax casting technique, Egan creates distinct, seemingly impossible forms—often torqued and undulating—that are also refined and sophisticated, even playful. Her unique balancing of curvaceous form and structure with beautiful surfaces enlivens objects of rigid heavy materials making them seemingly effortless and light.

In Egan’s furniture, an emphasis is placed on unique form and structure; coaxing minimal sensibilities to the fore. “As a designer, I’m interested in technology,” Egan says. “I am fascinated by the intersection of technology with craftwork. What excites me is using the technology to manipulate material into unexpected and unique forms.”

Egan is graduate of University College Dublin and Parsons School of Design, where she studied interior architecture. For her Freestanding Console and X Benches, Egan received a special mention for Best Contemporary Piece at PAD London in 2015. Egan’s work has regularly featured in major journals, including Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Wallpaper, Vogue, The New York Times, and Surface.
