HELEN HAUSLAND (Norwegian, b. 1974)
Beacon, 2024
Hand-built stoneware and earthenware, terra sigillata, slip
40.5" H x 13" Dia.
Helen Hausland's ceramic compositions are made by pressing bits of clay together repeatedly in order to create larger forms. Subtle manipulations create shifts that develop spontaneously in an unplanned manner. Hausland's background as a massage therapist and her years spent dancing ballet inform her approach to the material. The body`s experience of working with timing, repetition, and music is incorporated as a rhythmic language.
Hausland lives and works in Oslo, Norway. She keeps a studio at Norsk Teknisk Porselen factory in Fredrikstad, Norway. Her work is represented in the collections of the Oslo City Council and Norges Bank.
