Sarah Lutz (American, b. 1967) is a New York-based artist who splits her time between the Hudson Valley, NY and Truro, MA. With a studio practice spanning more than 40 years, Lutz is primarily a painter and has also collaborated regularly over the past 20 years with master printer Marina Ancona of 10 Grand Press, Brooklyn, NY.

Lutz spent much of her childhood in Antigua, Guatemala and in recent years has had the opportunity to return regularly. Lutz has fostered a new collaborative relationship with the weaving factory of Mitchell Denburg Collection/JD Textiles and is translating her abstract paintings and prints into large scale hand-dyed woven carpets.

Although firmly rooted in abstraction, Lutz’s work makes clear references to the natural world. “My work celebrates the pure physicality of my materials while also exploring their alchemistic and illusory potential. I strive to create a world of light and movement, space, and joy, that feels familiar while hinting at something ethereal and unknown”.

Lutz’s work is in numerous private and public collections, and she exhibits her paintings and monotypes regularly.
