TRINE DRIVSHOLM

Trine Drivsholm is a Danish glass artist whose intricate, geometric sculptures embrace biomimicry, botanical architecture, and the processes of growth and decay. Her works of the Botanical Structures series elaborate on the delicate fissures and vasculature of plant stems, enlarged and stylized using colored composite and fused glass cane. The ground, matte surface of the glass cane filters light through organic curves, allowing Drivsholm to construct translucent and semi-opaque compositions that shift in color and tone from different points on view. 

"I am interested in the correlation between color, form, and surface,” Drivsholm writes. "My work often has a soft and organic sensibility, and the surfaces are tactile. I am fascinated by the ability of the glass to communicate light, details, and depth.

Drivsholm’s work has been featured in a series of international exhibitions in China, Japan, Taiwan, and Argentina, notably the traveling exhibition Danish Wave. She is the recipient of numerous grants, awards, and accolades, including a Danish Art Foundation Grant, Silkeborg Artist Grant, the Hempels Glass Prize, and the Craftsman Prize of 1879. She has completed master classes at the Pilchuck Glass School and Haystack Mountain School in the United States and at the Creative Glass Centre in Scotland.
